Round 2 of the Tornado Fitness Race is coming to Guernsey…


Following the amazing success of Round 1, we’ve launched our second Fitness Race with a twist!

The Track Attack race is a pairs challenge with Male, Female and Mixed teams taking on the Footes Lane Athletics Track in the infamous Tornado Format…

How Does The Tornado Track Attack Race Work?


Heats containing 4 pairs will enter The Tornado at 10 minute intervals to prevent any bottlenecks at workout challenges.

These are the PROVISIONAL start times which are liable to slight adjustments depending on ticket demand.

Male Pairs (ADULT): 1000, 1010, 1020, 1030, 1040, 1050

Mixed Pairs (ADULT): 1115, 1125, 1135, 1145, 1155, 1205

Female Pairs (ADULT): 1230, 1240, 1250, 1300, 1310, 1320

Male Pairs (UNDER 18): 1345, 1355, 1405

Female Pairs (UNDER 18): 1415, 1425, 1435

Heats will be determined according to the 5km running time which must be submitted as part of your registration.

You will NOT be able to choose your start time and must be available at any time shown in your category. Final start times will be published from 7 days before the race.

The Tornado Course


An intense workout arena will be created in a marquee at Footes Lane with running laps taking place on the athletics track.

Workout challenges will alternate with running and pairs will race in an ‘I Go, You Go’ relay format:

Player 1 runs 400m then Player 2 runs 400m then…

Player 1 completes the first workout then Player 2 completes the first workout then…

Player 1 runs 400m then Player 2 runs 400m etc…

 

C2 Bike Erg

 

  • Female Adult: 1200 metres
  • Male Adult: 1500 metres
  • Female Under 18: 800 metres
  • Male Under 18: 1000 metres
  • Bike seat height may be adjusted before each individual if required
  • Damper setting MAY NOT be adjusted as drag factor will be equalised across machines

Worm Carry

  • Female Adult: 50kg worm
  • Mixed Adult: 60kg worm
  • Male Adult: 70kg worm
  • Female Under 18: 15kg deadball on shoulder (change with partner every 100m)
  • Male Under 18: 20kg sandbag on shoulder (change with partner every 100m)
  • Worm / sandbag may be put down whenever you like (but must then be picked up again…)

C2 Row Erg

    • Female: 600 metres
    • Male: 800 metres
    • Female Under 18: 400 metres
    • Male Under 18: 500 metres
    • Foot pads may be adjusted before each individual if required
    • Damper setting MAY NOT be adjusted as drag factor will be equalised across machines
 

Lunge

  •  
  • All Racers: Bodyweight
  • Player 1 completes 100m, Player 2 completes 100m, Player 1 completes 100m, Player 2 completes 100m completing one lap of the track
  • Back knee must touch the track on each step
  • Changeover can only take place at the 100m/200m/300m markers
  • Partner must walk next to the ‘lunger’

C2 Ski Erg

    • Female: 600 metres
    • Male: 800 metres
    • Female Under 18: 400 metres
    • Male Under 18: 500 metres

Farmer Carry

    • Female Adult: 2 x 16kg
    • Male Adult: 2 x 24kg

    • Player 1 completes 2 laps of 75m course, Player 2 completes 2 laps of 75m course, Player 1 completes 2 laps of 75m course, Player 2 completes 2 laps of 75m course

FAQ’s

No, the Tornado Races are open to all locals and non-locals who want to test themselves.

We look forward to bringing Guernsey’s fitness community together for a challenging and motivating day!

You should be able to complete all exercises as described to the required range of motion. 

Reps do not have to be completed in one set. For instance you may choose to do sets of 10 wall balls until completion.

You should also be capable of running 3-5km without stopping even though runs are in interval format.

There are no refunds available through us due to organisation costs, administration time and management of the heat format for the race.

However, you will have the option to purchase Refund Protection through RaceNation when you sign up.

Heats will be determined by 5km times so we can ensure there are no bottlenecks in the arena.

Your cooperation with this is essential or you risk disqualification and being banned from future events.

Go do a 5km test before registering and help us to organise a seamless event for you.

All heats will be determined by current 5km times as above.

You must be able to complete all exercises as per the demonstration videos.

If you cannot complete full range of motion and feel you can’t do so by the race, please do not enter.

Three warnings in the race will result in disqualification to keep the race flowing.

We cannot comment on any and all injuries so please seek professional advice.

There is no race briefing and you must be clear about the format of the race which will be clearly marked and signposted.

You will be assigned a race number and this will be written on your arm and leg at registration.

Registration will take place in the Garonne Stand next to the running track.

You MUST be signed in at least 30 minutes before your heat and on the start line at least 5 minutes before your heat time.

Heats will not be delayed for any reason and you may not start later because you missed your heat.

Areas around the track will be available for warm ups but you must stay off the track completely whilst the race is in progress.

You should wear trainers suitable for running.

Please ensure you test this before the event. Any kit malfunctions may result in disqualification to ensure heats can continue flowing on time.

For the purpose of judge communication and competitor safety, phones and ALL types of ear plugs and music is prohibited.

For the safety of others NO DRINKS may be carried in the race. 

There will be a table which you will pass on every loop and where you may leave your drink.

Water will also be available here.

No drinks, food, nutritional products or other items can be passed to competitors by spectators on any part of the course. 

There are toilet facilities in the Garenne Stand

We recommend you practice completion without toilet breaks, don’t drink too much and don’t eat anything you’re not used to before the race!

You will be timed manually with no breakdowns. The arena is tight and intense and difficult to use itemised chip timing.

Yes.

All results will be published within 24 hours of the final event heat subject to any necessary reviews.

By entering the Tornado Race you agree to have your results published.

Yes.

We will have an official photographer present to capture your ‘finest’ moments…

Spectators may take photos but must stay off the running course and not interfere with the arena set up.

Yes, the more the merrier!

There will be some space in the Tornado arena and plenty of room around the running ‘track’.

Please ask all spectators to respect the race and stay off the running course.
